I love creating little dioramas of villages but wanted to create something a bit more dynamic in terms of animation. I had an idea to keep the camera locked on the bus and animate the surrounding context around it. Technically it was quite tricky to create the pop-up nature of assets towards the edge of the map but the end result came out pretty playful. I decided to turn the animation into a kind of tourist board promo for the county which I think worked pretty well. There are quite a few of these 'scenic' bus routes around the UK, and at some point I would like to do more but for now the Yorkshire and Lancashire routes will suffice.
Visit Yorkshire & why not do it on the Coastliner 840 Transdev bus from Leeds to Whitby - a whimsical tour throughout Yorkshire, over the Moors, ending up in the lovely seaside town of Whitby! Lots of polygons were used in this (better with sound too).
The second chapter in my 'Scenic Bus Journey' series looks at the charming route of the Lakes Connection 555 from Lancaster to Keswick. Complete with sailboats and paragliders of course.
